A vulnerability has been identified in Microsoft Windows, which could be exploited by attackers to gain knowledge of sensitive information. This issue is caused by an error in the Web Proxy Auto-Discovery (WPAD) feature resolves hostnames that do not include a fully-qualified domain name (FQDN), which could allow a malicious user to host a WPAD server, potentially establishing it as a proxy server to conduct man-in-the-middle attacks against users whose domains are registered as a subdomain to a second-level domain (SLD).
