A vulnerability has been identified in CA BrightStor ARCserve Backup, which could be exploited by remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands or cause a denial of service. This flaw is due to a buffer overflow error in the Tape Engine service (tapeeng.exe) when processing malformed RPC packets (port 6502/TCP), which could be exploited by remote attackers to crash a vulnerable application or compromise an affected system.
