A vulnerability has been identified in Mambo, which could be exploited by attackers to execute arbitrary commands. This flaw is due to an input validation error in the "login()" (4.5 branch) and "loginUser()" (4.6 branch) functions that do not properly validate the "usercookie[password]" cookie parameter before being used in SQL statements, which could be exploited by remote attackers to bypass the authentication process and gain unauthorized access to the administrative section where they can upload malicious PHP scripts and execute arbitrary commands with the privileges of the web server.
Note : A cross site scripting issue has also been reported.
