Redhat has released a security patch to correct two vulnerabilities identified in gdb. The first flaw is due to a heap overflow error in the BFD library that does not properly handle specially crafted files containing a large number of section headers, which may be exploited to execute arbitrary commands with the privileges of the user running gdb. The second vulnerability is due to a design error when loading the ".gdbinit" configuration file, which may be exploited by local attackers to run arbitrary commands with the privileges of the user invoking gdb.
