Mandriva has released updated packages to correct a vulnerability identified in HylaFAX.
The first issue is due to an error in the script "xferfaxstats" that creates temporary files insecurely in "/tmp", which may be exploited by local attackers, when the "ARCTEMP" environment variable is not defined, to overwrite or create arbitrary files with the privileges of the user running the vulnerable application. For additional information, see : FrSIRT/ADV-2005-1812
The second vulnerability is due to an error when handling UNIX domain sockets, which could be exploited by local attackers to cause a denial of service by creating the socket using the "hyla.unix" temporary file.
